Week 14 Bang Khae

Dear Family and Friends

Elder Taylor and I are very happy with the progress in our area! Things are going very well. We have had to drop some investigators because they wont keep commitments but other than that things are going well. We have had some great lessons this last week where the spirit was felt and people cried. We also go to go on a switch off out of the country! Ill tell you about that later ha.

One of our investigators was telling Elder Taylor and I about her old church. She said," If you were at my old church you would be the prophets." Ha well we would still be missionaries. She also said,"I feel as if this place is like the prophets and my old church is like the pharisees and the sadducee's." That make Elder Taylor and I laugh for sure. That was sister Rung. She is doing quite well. We had a really good lesson about faith with her. She is someone that has read the Book of Mormon and said," Its way similar to the Bible. It has to be true." She loves to use the Bible so that gives Elder Taylor and I a chance to use the Bible in our lessons with her. She really enjoys that. We were able to use a really good scripture from James 2 which talks about faith. Look it up.

A few weeks ago I was asked to baptized one of the sisters investigators. Well this member has a son who wants to learn with the missionaries. He only wants to learn with the Elders though. He is only 9 years old and really respectful. We asked him why he wanted to be baptized and he said," I want to be baptized so I can live with my family forever and that my sins will be washed away." I thought that was a great answer for a 9 year old. On Sunday I walked into the church and he says," Elder I prayed about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon! I believe it to be true." Wow that is awesome! See even little kids can keep commitments. Kim is his name and something interesting about him is that he likes to give the closing prayer at the end of English class. He shows all the adults that even little kids can pray ha.

Elder Taylor and I taught this a investigator for the second time just the other day. To be really honest with all of you he was really hard hearted! We had challenged him to read and pray about the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith but he hadnt. Elder Taylor and I got into this testifying mood with this man. No one was yelling but the spirit was witnessing to this man what we said was truth. We told him," Only through Jesus Christ will you receive Salvation. He is the only way and what we can give you will help you have Salvation." He said," Okay well I dont want Salvation." Okay we left it at that, ended the lesson and let the man go. Not everyone will hearken to the voice of the Savior.

Brother Tong another one our investigators who is getting very close to baptism hasnt prayed about anything that we have taught him. We were shocked! He said that he believes it all since the first day. We told him that was not enough. He needed to get an answer from Heavenly Father that all this was true. If we dont asked we wont know. We met with him 3 days in a row and each day he told us that he still hadnt prayed to know if anything we taught was true. On the 3rd day he said that he would finally go home and pray about what we had taught. We told him that he cant get baptized unless he prays and asks Heavenly Father. We think that got him. Other than that Tong is great! We even gave him a tie so he could wear it with his white shirt he always wears!

In one lesson this last week with Sister Yuki she asked us about the pre mortal life. She said she still didnt really understand it but after we explained it she understood more. She asked," So Heavenly Father wants us to become like him right? How do we do that?" What a great question. We gave her a few example about how she could do that but the member in the room gave such a great answer. He had come with us to visit a member at their home this last week. The member gave us some milk to take home. On the way home he saw me give some milk to someone sitting on the sidewalk. He said," Elder Hinckley drank the milk at the members home and said that is was very good. The member then gave the Elders some more mile to take home. On the way home I saw Elder Hinckley take something that he thought was good and give it to someone in need. That man that needed the thing that Elder Hinckley had will then be able to give or share that with others in need." Oh my goodness that made me cry as well as sister Yuki. I learned two things from that lesson, this first was that we need to take the things that Heavenly Father has given to us and share them with others, so others can bless others. The second is that others will see what you do. What you do will leave an impact on others so watch what you do.

Elder Taylor and I were asked to go do a switch of in Myanmar this last week! It was a great switch off! We had to fly to Myanmar and give some special training that President Johnson needed to get out to the missionaries there but didnt have time to do it himself. I will tell you what, Myanmar is so clean compared to Thailand. The dress is so modest! A lot of people can speak English there which is great! Anyways I learned many many things from that switch off over there. It was something that I wont forget. Elder Taylor and I were only there a day but we made it a goal to go back after our missions.

Sister Yuki and Sister Nii were confirmed on Sunday! Sunday was another great day! It was just as great as last week! Our investigators are Tong, Rung, Boot, Tin, Kim, May and Ploy, Big, Bon, Dong and Der. They need your prayers! Some of the recent converts that I have taught and baptized also need your prayers as well. Sister A, Sister Dingdoy, Brother Jade, Brother Doughnut, Sister Shompoo. They need help at this time.

Love

Elder Hinckley
